Yesterday’s Elf 4 Health challenge was to go a whole day without wearing makeup. From what I saw on the Facebook page, this was a difficult challenge for a lot of people. I generally wear a little mascara and lip gloss, but not much else, so it wasn’t too bad for me, but I still missed the little enhancements that my usual daily makeup gives.
I did find one thing especially interesting, though. I posted a photo of my makeup-free self on Facebook, just to see what the results would be.
Me in all my early AM, no-makeup glory!
I didn’t personally think there was anything terribly special about the photo. It’s just a normal, run of the mill selfie. I also thought I looked a little bit tired, since the photo was taken before I’d had my life elixir (read: giant cup of coffee) for the day.
The photo turned out to be my most popular post so far this week. It raked in 14 “likes”, and a couple of very nice comments. Not a huge turnout, but enough to make a statement. I didn’t need a full face of makeup (or any makeup for that matter) for people to think this was a good photo. Makeup is a lot of fun, and I do enjoy wearing it most days, but I learned that I don’t need it to feel good about myself. My appearance doesn’t define who I am, and I don’t need to alter my appearance to be loved. If I want to wear makeup (and I usually do), that’s my choice and I do it for my own enjoyment. If not, that’s fine too. Do whatever makes you happy and be yourself, and your inner beauty will shine through 🙂
Do you usually like to wear makeup, or do you prefer a more natural look? Have you ever tried a makeup-free day?
Happy Almost-Friday All!
Hey guys! Sorry for being MIA, it’s been a nutty week and I just haven’t been up to blogging. I wanted to check in with you all, and I thought you might enjoy this adorable note I saw on the news today:
How stinkin’ cute is that?
I hope everyone has a great day!
Happy belated Halloween, and Happy Friday everyone! I hope everyone had a safe and fun evening last night. I personally stayed in and handed out candy to the neighborhood kids. The best costume I saw all night was a little girl, maybe 2 years old, dressed as a skunk. Her tail was bigger than her! I got a little help from my puppy Sasha, who dressed up as Eeyore and LOVED meeting all the neighborhood kids!
She could not stand the head piece, and kept shaking it off.
I dressed up during the day for work. My costume was originally going to be Miss Frizzle from “The Magic School Bus”. I bought all the materials last weekend, but ended up being sick all week long and just couldn’t motivate myself to work on it. Since I love to dress up for Halloween, I was determined to find a costume that was both simple and fun. I looked through a bunch of ideas online, and finally landed on this one:
All this costume requires is a red trench coat, a fedora and a pair of black gloves. It’s super simple! I also got a chance to wear my brand new boots.
How did you celebrate Halloween this year? What are your favorite last-minute costume ideas?
Happy Weekend All!
With the weather getting cooler, I’ve been focusing more on comfort in my wardrobe than anything else. But comfortable certainly does NOT have to mean boring. I like to keep things simple and functional but still pretty, and this outfit is the perfect combination of the two. The best part of this outfit, you ask? It’s essentially pajamas that I can wear to work!
Black leggings, a comfy blouse, cardigan sweater and some functional-but-cute flats. It doesn’t get any better than this!
I love the high-top tables in our break room. I also love that this was basically a candid photo, but it came out pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself!
These have been my go-to flats lately. Very comfortable, and extremely versatile. Plus, I got them for a steal at TJ Maxx!
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I’ve been wearing this fun bracelet a lot.
My favorite bobby pins from Birchbox!
I hope everyone is having an awesome day. Happy Friday everyone!
Guys! I’ve missed you so much! It’s been months, and I’m sure it feels like I’ve abandoned you, and I’m really really sorry. My life has changed a lot over the past several months, and I just haven’t felt up to blogging. But now I’m back, and I’m here to stay.
But things are going to be a little bit different around here. There will be fashion posts; that won’t change. But there will also be other posts. I want this blog to go beyond my closet and into the rest of my life. Family, friends, big events, and just life in general. I really hope you’ll enjoy it. If you have any suggestions or things you’d like to see, I’m happy to take advice as well 🙂
I’m so glad to be back!
Happy Wednesday 🙂
Miss Sasha was very rambunctious Tuesday afternoon. When I had a few minutes to spare, I took a break to play with her. Here she is doing some basic tricks-“sit” and “paw”-for a treat.
I also took that opportunity to take some photos. I’m really trying hard to keep this blog updated at least a few days a week! Thanks to my lovely Aunt Rose for taking my photos 🙂

Happy Wednesday All! Only 2 more days until the weekend!
Saturday was spent in the Big Apple with Bill. We went in for Free Comic Book Day, and then went to French Roast to get some work done. We had a little time in the afternoon, so we stopped in Bryant Park to snap some photos.
Top: JC Penney / Capris: Target / Sandals: Purchased on Poshmark / Necklace: Charles Emerson Designs / Sunnies: Target / Bag: Coach, (Christmas gift) / Backpack: JanSport
I love when Bill snaps candids. It gives it a more real, less staged feel.
Checking out my Superman comic from Free Comic Book Day and enjoying some refreshing coconut water 🙂
Being goofy for the camera 😛
Happy Monday! I hope everyone is having a great week so far.
Last night I decided to try something a little bit different. Instead of lacing up my Nikes and heading out for a run, I decided to slip on my Vibram 5 Fingers and finally give them a try. If you’re not familiar with the brand, they’re these little guys:
Mine are the “Treksport” style. I got them for less than half price through an Active.com deal!
The “barefoot” style allows you to run with a more natural stride. Traditional running shoes, like my Nikes, create the standard heel-toe motion that most of us are used to while running. But take your shoes off for a second and try to run with that same motion. It’s awkward, right? You naturally land on the front of your foot rather than your heel. That is how we as humans are meant to run.
Now, I won’t lie to you. These definitely take some getting used to. I only ran a mile, and my calves and shins were crazy tight. A little Mineral Ice before bed did the trick, though, and my legs are pretty much back to normal this morning. You shouldn’t try to start full-force on them. I’m starting off at one 1-mile run per week, and building from there. Ultimately, though, I will be able to run in these daily, and the knee and ankle trouble I constantly have while running will subside. How stinkin’ cool is that?
What kind of shoes do you like to wear to work out? Have you ever tried barefoot-style running shoes? If so, what did you think of them?
I spent Sunday afternoon in the city with Bill catching up on some blogging and enjoying some yummy eats at French Roast. It was such a beautiful day outside I decided it was a good day for a mini photo shoot. I posed for a few smiley photos, none of which came out well. Little did I know that in the meantime Bill had taken a whole bunch of candid photos. In each one I have a sort of attitudinal but cute look on my face, which I really got a kick out of. I decided those were the photos I’d share with y’all today!
Blouse & Sweater: Worthington//Jeans: Liz Claiborne//Belt: Target//Sneakers: Nike
The only thing I’m wearing that’s new (or even a remotely recent purchase) are my sunnies, which are from Target,
and my Coach bangles, which were a gift from my mom.
This one kind of looks staged, but it’s completely candid!
I love this one the most. Total Miranda Priestly lip pursing going on here!
What did you do to enjoy the sunny weather this weekend? How ready are you for spring to arrive?
…that you wouldn’t be seeing any outfit posts from me for awhile, but this is just too thrilling to pass up! When I went to get dressed this morning, I realized that I had nothing clean that was appropriate for work. My initial plan was to just wear jeans and hope no one noticed. But then I remembered a skirt that I had tucked away in a drawer months ago. I had worn it once, but it had barely fit. It pulled across my hips and sat really short as a result, and it was just really uncomfortable in general. Today, though, it slipped right on with no problems. It zipped right up and hung closer to my knees, and the waistline sits loosely across my midsection. To celebrate, I’ve made a quick Before & After photo with this one skirt.
Check it out:
I haven’t reached my goals quite yet. In fact, I have a long way to go still, but I’m so proud of my achievements to date!
